The next step would be to remove coils and clean all parts – steam clean, sandblast and bake – ready to reassemble with customer-specific parts.
In the winding area, the commutator is cleaned and repaired, or replaced if necessary, and then re-installed; slots are insulated, new coils installed and connected. Bands are then lathed to install holding the coils in place in the armature and the commutator is soldered or tig welded.
This assembly is dipped in varnish or VPI tank and then baked in a curing oven. Once baking is complete the commutator is machined to size and undercutting and polishing are done. The armature is then given a complete electrical and mechanical inspection before shipment. The result is a rebuilt armature which offers all the reliability and durability of a brand new one.
